There are a few games that I would definitely want to play that have been remastered on the PS3/PS4. Zone of the Enders, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy X (hereafter referred to as FFX) come to mind. I don't have a desktop PC yet as that is something I'm planning down the line once I saved up enough.

I don't consider myself a tech savvy enough person and with the recent release of FFX HD on the PS4, I started wondering whether I would get the best overall experience playing FFX on the PCSX2 or on PS4. In other words, can I get the same or near the level of high textures on the PS4 version with the PCSX2? If you had the choice between FFX on PS4 or on PCSX2, which would you choose? While I realize that there are certain content or small tweaks that have been made to the game with the HD remastered, I don't care as much about that. I appreciate any help or opinions, thank you.

I had to edit my original post to state that I don't have a desktop PC yet. I only have a Surface Pro 3 and an old 2009 laptop and those are for school mostly.

Final

Yep, I'll definitely agree that unskippable cutscenes are as much of a nuisance as numerous steps to try again after a game over (Symphony of the Night comes to mind). As I understand from various threads here, PCSX2 seems to rely more on a good processor and not necessarily a powerful graphics card, am I correct? Does this mean when the time comes to pick out parts, I should opt for an i7 or would I be fine with an i5?

Please remember that while I would mostly play console games on my PC, I wouldn't mind playing some newer games from Steam so I would aim to get a decent enough graphics card too down the line. You are correct, the most important hardware part for emulation (not just PS2 emulation but GameCube/Wii emulation as well) is the CPU. More specifically it's single-threaded performance.

We suggest a 1500 Single Thread Rating in PassMark.com as a minimum, with an STR of 1800+ being preferred. A Pentium G3258, will be more than enough for emulation (unless you plan to play PS2 games that require software mode such as the Jak & Daxter series), there's no need to go as high as an i5 and definitely not an i7. If anything just bump it up to an i3-4130 so you can have more threads for better software mode performance. If you're planning on doing PC gaming though, I definitely recommend getting an i5.

I would go for the i5-4690K specifically because it's the most powerful one available AND since it's a 'K' it comes with an unlocked multiplier so you can overclock it for even more power.:). Well to be honest I like the PS4 version much better than on my game laptop with PCSX2. I mean it does look great on PCSX2 already, but the PS4 version just adds that bit more to it that gives me even a better graphics festival:-) I play it on my 27' Dell Monitor so I am sitting quite close to the screen and can see every wonderful detail. And regarding the RNG and continuing music bug after each battle, that's already fixed and that was about time ^ Link: So PS4 is the greatest FFX HD version. At least for me. I quit playing it on my laptop since then:-). Seeing as how you're asking this question in, I would imagine you knew the answer you would get would be 'PCSX2'.

World of final fantasy patch

So I hope you're asking your question in other subreddits so you can get a more encompassing answer:P Anyway yes, I would personally play the game(s) on PCSX2 instead of PS4. I've been a PC gamer for a little over a year now and have no plans to go back to consoles and thus I don't even own a PS4.

I do own a PS3 and I did buy Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 ReMIX, Final Fantasy X X-2 HD Remaster and Kingdom Hearts HD II.5 ReMIX but to be honest I haven't really played them. I played a little bit of Final Fantasy X X-2 HD Remaster just to check out the quality of the new textures and the new UI (which are both great!) but I find myself playing Final Fantasy X: International on PCSX2 instead. For me it's mostly about convenience.

I'm at my computer more often than I am using PS3. I also enjoy being sitting closer to my monitor which lets me see a lot more detail than if I were sitting in a couch in front of my TV. I also enjoy being able to multi-task and being able to run the game in turbo mode during certain areas so I can go through them faster or grind levels faster. I'd also like to add that you don't need a powerful PC to run Final Fantasy X. That's one of the easiest games to emulate. Would you mind me asking your PC's specs?

Mainly I'm looking to know what CPU model you have and what GPU you have, if any. If it turns out you have a good enough PC (or you decide to get one) for PCSX2, feel free to come back to this subreddit for some help on setting the emulator if you get stuck. To be honest though, it's pretty easy to set it up so you probably won't need any help. The PCSX2 team made a great configuration video that should cover the basics. It's on YouTube but you can find it linked on their website as well. As far as the content tweaks/additions that Final Fantasy X X-2 HD Remaster has, you can just find yourself a copy of Final Fantasy X: International that's been patched with the English text from the original US release and you'll be good to go. In other words, can I get the same or near the level of high textures on the PS4 version with the PCSX2?

The textures in the remaster are better, no questions asked. That's not to say the original PS2 textures look bad though. So yeah in conclusion as far as Final Fantasy X goes, the overall experience is pretty much the same on both PCSX2 and PS3/PS4. Like I said the new textures (and of course the new FMVs) and the new UI they made for the re-release are pretty good, but not good enough to justify spending $40-$50. If you would like to see what Final Fantasy X looks like on PCSX2, I'd be happy to provide some screenshots.

Here's a random screenshot I took of FFX a little while ago: Now when it comes to the Kingdom Hearts games, I would 100% suggest PCSX2 over the PS3 remasters. The reason being that you can run the games at 60FPS in PCSX2, which was never possible in the PS2 or even on the PS3 remasters. It's simply awesome to play the games at 60FPS. Again for the additional content, just find yourself the English patch of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix and the English patch for Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix and you'll be good to go.:D.

I really appreciate your detailed and thorough answer. As of yet, I don't have a desktop rig that I'd like to play. I only have a Surface Pro 3 and a HP business laptop from 2009, both of which are both used for school right now.

When I do set out to get a desktop rig, I'll definitely ask around again for opinions. Ideally, I'm thinking about a smaller case to conserve space on my desk. What sealed the deal for me from your reply was about the 60FPS on PCSX2. I was too fixated on textures that I forgot even asking about frame rate. You also bring up a good point about convenience from sitting closer to your monitor than to your TV. I can certainly foresee many times where I'll need to pull up a YouTube video on a challenging section and using the PC would be perfect for that.

Once again, thanks for your insight and also for the screenshot.

Also i get this error: vtlb miss: addr 0x4, mode 0 hope someone can help me out As far as I remember you can add RAW and Gameshark2v3-4 Codes in case your patch isn't working. Your master code seems to work since you can actually boot the game. The other codes are probably bad or misconverted. These guys there can help you find the right codes if you can't find it on their forum. Just make sure you register.

Thanks You just have to wait until you've done the sphere grid tutorial and input the codes after. Works like a charm.
