Feb 07, 2014 After upgrading my ps3 to firmware 4.55 my ps3 stopped reading discs. I tried calling sony support but they of course denied that it was the firmware.

Ps4 Update Problems
My ps3 is about 5 months old and currently the internet works and all but it says i need a system update and i have done it before with no problems. The 2.17 download is not downloading. Its been 1 hour and my ps3 reads only 4% completed. I tested the internet and it works and the internet connection. I tested the internet and it works and the internet connection. My friends completed it in no less than 4 minutes.
And mines is much newer. I dont know how to correct this problem. And for the first 1% itwill take about 40 mintues. It sounds like your connection is really slow.

If you don't have any problems downloading from the Sony Store or browser then it could be the Sony site. If all your downloads are slow then the problem is with you or your ISP. If you are using wireless try changing or setting your password, someone could be stealing your wireless. edit When you show your connection strength it is only to your router, not the internet as a whole. If your PS3 was having connection problems it would drop your connection or give DNS error messages. The fact it isn't suggests a bandwidth issue.
Have you perhaps exceeded your usage agreement and are currently restricted? Am i the only owner of a ps3 who has never downloaded anything whatsoever and yet my machine works perfectly-without updates and i have had it nearly a year now. My ps3 has never been connected to the internet (and is never likely to be!!).
Minecraft Ps3 Update Problems
I found through experience that if i took the ps3 out of its box and treated it as it should be treated ie a high definition games console-i don't get any problems. Where the internet is concerned-thats why i paid good money for a pc!! To the person giving me the thumbs down nearly everyone in this thread is reporting problems with the ps3-and this is solely because the machine is connected to the internet-doesn't this tell you something?-so you carry on downloading and getting probs-i will just merely switch on my ps3 and carry on gaming-i am happy!. Tell us some more.
